Titanium Alloy Petroleum Logging Instrument Outer Tube Cylinder Description
The outer cylinder of titanium alloy petroleum logging instruments is mainly used for deep well logging instruments at depths of several kilometers, as underground temperatures can reach hundreds of degrees Celsius and pressures can reach tens or even hundreds of megapascals. The instrument must be able to operate reliably for extended periods in high-temperature, high-pressure environments. This places special requirements on the material of the outer casing. The strength of TC4 titanium alloy is 800–900 MPa, TC11 reaches 1100 MPa, and TC18 offers even higher strength.
In addition, titanium alloys are resistant to high temperatures and can operate for long periods in environments not exceeding 350°C (660°F). They are also resistant to low temperatures, able to function continuously for up to 2 hours in the deep sea at –180°C. Titanium alloys are resistant to acid and alkali corrosion; when in contact with oxygen in air or water, titanium, aluminum, and vanadium immediately form a stable, continuous, tightly adherent oxide film, giving the material excellent corrosion resistance in various media. Ti-6Al-4V (titanium 6-aluminum-4-vanadium) exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in common corrosive environments such as seawater, oxidizing acids, chlorine (present in water), rocket propellants, and alkalis. Titanium alloy material is also non-magnetic and will not cause magnetic interference with measuring instruments.
In summary, titanium alloy material is the best choice. However, due to the high cost of titanium alloys, shallow logging instruments typically use more economical materials such as stainless steel instead of titanium alloys.
