1:Mandrel method (hot forming)
One of the most common elbow manufacturing processes from titanium tubes is the mandrel process, which is a thermal forming method.
In this method, the pipe is cut to the desired length and pushed with the help of a hydraulic plunger. Induction heating coils heat the pipe and then push it through a mold called a "mandrel" that allows the pipe to expand and bend at the same time.
The method can be used to manufacture a wide range of elbow diameters. In this figure, you can see that the pipe is cut to the desired length in the first step. The cut tube is then placed on the mandrel. Next, with the help of a hydraulic tool, the tube is pushed onto the mold while induction coils heat the fitting to form a bend. Finally, the elbow is sent for heat treatment and machining before it is inspected for appearance and dimensions.
2:Extrusion way
In cold extrusion, titanium tubes with the same diameter and thickness as the finished product are passed through the mold to make them into the desired shape. Usually applied to small to medium titanium elbow.
The cut titanium tube is pushed into a cold-bent mold. Proper lubrication is required to avoid excessive friction and to protect the finish of the final elbow. The extruded titanium elbows are sent for heat treatment and machining before they are inspected for appearance and dimensions.
3:UO method
The UO method is used to manufacture medium elbows, tees and reducing pipes. The plate is cut into a specially designed shape, first shaped into a U-shape using a mold and then shaped into an O-shape or tube using another mold, which is why the method is called the UO method.
Once the fitting is made into a tumbler shape, it is welded from the inside and outside of the closed joint. Large titanium elbows are made by welding two separate plates together. Likewise, the titanium elbow prepared will be heat treated and machined, and then inspected for appearance and size.
4:Thermoforming process
In the thermoforming die bending method, tubes are heated to forming temperature and molded in a die with a particular shape, and the process can be repeated as needed to obtain the desired shape, size and wall thickness.
The thermoforming method is usually applied to thick-walled elbows that cannot be bent on a spindle die.
