Products Description
ASTM B338 Gr2 Titanium Tube refers to titanium tubes that conform to the ASTM B338 standard and are made from Grade 2 (Gr2) commercially pure titanium. ASTM B338 is the standard specification for titanium heat exchanger tubes, defining the chemical composition, mechanical performance requirements, tolerance range, quality testing methods, and sampling criteria.
Grade 2 titanium offers a balance of strength and ductility, with a tensile strength of approximately 50,000 psi and an elongation of 20%, making it more workable compared to other titanium grades.
Products features
Corrosion Resistance
The corrosion resistance of ASTM B338 Gr2 Titanium Tube stems from the formation of a passive oxide layer (TiO₂) on its surface, which protects it from corrosive environments. Titanium exhibits negligible corrosion rates (less than 0.1 mm/year) even in seawater and chloride-rich conditions, whereas stainless steels corrode significantly faster. The oxide layer reforms quickly if damaged, ensuring long-term durability. For instance, titanium tubes used in desalination plants can operate for decades with minimal maintenance, drastically reducing operational costs and downtime.
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio
Gr2 titanium offers a tensile strength of 344 MPa (50,000 psi) with a density of only 4.51 g/cm³, resulting in a superior strength-to-weight ratio compared to materials like stainless steel, which has a density of 7.8 g/cm³ and similar strength. This advantage allows titanium components to reduce structural weight by up to 40% while maintaining or even increasing strength. For example, in the aerospace industry, titanium hydraulic tubing helps reduce overall aircraft weight, improving fuel efficiency by 15-20%, which leads to lower emissions and operating costs over time.
Formability
Gr2 titanium has an elongation rate of approximately 20%, allowing it to be drawn, welded, and cold-worked into complex geometries without cracking. Its ability to be coiled, bent, or stretched into thin-walled tubes makes it ideal for heat exchanger designs, where maximizing surface area is essential for effective heat transfer. For example, Gr2 titanium is commonly used in shell-and-tube heat exchangers, enabling complex coiled designs that enhance heat transfer efficiency by 30% compared to straight tubes.
Low Thermal Expansion
The coefficient of thermal expansion for titanium is 8.6 × 10⁻⁶/°C, significantly lower than that of aluminum (23.1 × 10⁻⁶/°C) or stainless steel (16 × 10⁻⁶/°C). This property minimizes expansion and contraction due to temperature changes, ensuring dimensional stability in high-temperature applications such as aerospace components and heat exchangers. For instance, titanium tubes used in aircraft engines remain stable under temperature fluctuations ranging from -50°C to over 400°C, ensuring that engine component performance is not compromised by thermal stress.

products Applications
The use of titanium tubes
Production process of titanium tube
Titanium tubes are produced using cold rolling technology and typically require three rolling processes from the billet stage to the finished tube. After each rolling, oil removal and heat treatment are necessary. Following the final heat treatment, the tubes are straightened, cut to length, subjected to water and air pressure tests, acid washed, inspected, and flaw detected before being packaged and shipped.

What are the specifications of your titanium tubes?
We can produce diameters ranging from 6mm to 339mm, wall thicknesses from 0.5mm to 15mm, and lengths from 500mm to 12000mm.
Can you provide welded pipes?
We specialize in producing seamless titanium pipes, but we have long-term cooperative welded pipe manufacturers who can negotiate lower prices for you.
Which is better, titanium welded pipe or seamless pipe?
Seamless titanium pipes and welded pipes each have their own advantages. In terms of procurement costs, welded pipes are about 10% -20% cheaper than seamless pipes. However, in terms of service life, seamless titanium pipes have a longer service life than welded pipes.
How do you deliver titanium tubes to customers
We have long-term cooperative cargo carriers who can transport goods to customers through sea, land, air, railway, and other means.
