Grade 5 Titanium Alloy is a widely used titanium material. Its high strength, lightweight, and corrosion resistance allow this grade to be used in many applications. A common market is aerospace. It can also be age-hardened by heat treatment to obtain higher strength. Some of the applications for this material are compressor blades, disks, and rings for jet engines; fuselage components; pressure vessels; rocket engine cases; helicopter rotor hubs, and critical forgings that require a high strength-to-weight ratio. This biocompatible material is also well-suited for use in medical implants.

 

 

Nonmagnetic. A two-phase alloy containing alpha and beta-phase crystal structures. This high-strength material can be used at cryogenic temperatures to 427°C. Grade 5 Titanium Alloy Bar AMS requires a minimum yield strength of 120,000 psi at room temperature. This grade of titanium can be used in the annealed condition or in the solution-treated and aged condition. Grade 5 Titanium Alloy has excellent boiling point corrosion resistance to most media including nitric acid at all concentrations; seawater; and all concentrations of alkalis to boiling point. Stress corrosion cracking may occur if chloride salts are present on stressed parts that are subsequently subjected to elevated temperatures. Grade 5 Titanium Alloy has acceptable oxidation resistance up to 538°C.
