316L Stainless Steel Cathode Plate

The 316L Stainless Steel Cathode Plate is made from a 316 stainless steel plate that is welded to a steel ladle with conductive strips. It is primarily used in the electrolysis process within the electrochemical industry. Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength, 316 stainless steel is widely used in various industrial fields. In copper electrolysis, crude copper containing 99% to 99.9% copper is first cast into an anode plate, and stainless steel is used as the cathode. The anode and cathode are then placed into an electrolytic cell containing a solution of copper sulfate and sulfuric acid.

Under the action of direct current, the copper and base metals in the anode dissolve into the electrolyte. However, precious metals such as gold, silver, and palladium do not dissolve and instead form anode sludge.

Copper ions in the solution are deposited first, while base metals that are not deposited remain in the solution and are removed during electrolyte purification. The cathode produces higher-purity copper, known as cathode copper or electrolytic copper.

The electrolysis system consists of several automatic IGBT power control modules, which are part of a digital pulse power supply system. Semi-automatic molds are used when casting the anode plates. To shorten the electrolysis cycle, the thickness of the anode is generally controlled between 10 mm and 30 mm.

During electrolysis, Cu²⁺ ions gain electrons and are converted into pure copper at the cathode. At the same time, gold, silver, palladium, and platinum remain in the anode sludge. The anode sludge is processed in a frequency furnace through cleaning, reduction, and oxidation to obtain precious metal alloy blocks.

Subsequently, water is removed, and the remaining liquid is extracted, separated, and refined to recover the precious metals. In the workshop, all areas where waste gas is generated must be equipped with tail gas absorption devices and ozone treatment systems. Similarly, all areas where tail liquid is produced must have fluid diversion systems. The tail liquid is sent to the wastewater treatment plant and is either discharged or reused after meeting required standards.
